Vanilla Minecraft has a set despawn radius of a soft distance of 32 blocks, and a hard distance of 128 blocks. These distances have been modified on Blithe to increase server performance, and will affect farms and AFK spots. Read below for more information!
How Despawning Works
There are two despawn thresholds for every mob category. Once a mob crosses the soft distance from the nearest player, the server begins periodically rolling a random chance to despawn it. Once it crosses the hard distance, it despawns instantly — no roll, no delay.
Blithe Despawn Distances
Standard Mobs
Most mob categories — including monsters, creatures, ambient mobs, axolotls, misc, and underground water creatures — share the same thresholds. Soft despawn begins at 28 blocks and hard despawn triggers at 96 blocks.
Water Ambient
Water ambient mobs such as fish have a tighter hard despawn range. Soft despawn begins at 28 blocks and hard despawn triggers at 96 blocks.

If you're building a mob farm, keep in mind that players need to be within 96 blocks of the farm for mobs to spawn and remain active. Standing too far away will cause mobs to instantly despawn before reaching your collection point.
